SPIDER VEIN REMOVaL

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias or thread veins, are small clusters of damaged small blood vessels in the skin. They can appear as red, blue, or purple lines bulging and branching out from a central point resulting in a spider-like appearance. For most people there is no serious underlying medical concern - they are usually caused by extended periods of standing, crossing the legs, spicy foods, alcohol consumption or even just spending a lot of time outdoors. Fortunately, there are some treatments options that can help reduce their appearance such as VeinAway thermolysis, Microsclerotherapy or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy.

VEINAWAY

We are delighted to offer VeinAway™, the new gold standard in spider vein removal. Vein Away™ is a relatively comfortable treatment which successfully treats spider veins and thread veins. The treatment takes around 15 minutes per session and targets small vessels in areas including legs, arms, ankles, knees and face.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Vein Away™ is carried out by using a very thin isolated needle to administer the treatment through the epidermis, without piercing the area.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Depending on the size, depth and age of the veins, 1- 3+ treatments may be needed.

IS IT PAINFUL?

As the treatment is minimally invasive there is minimal discomfort, but if necessary a topical anaesthetic can be used. There is no requirement for compression stockings or bandaging post treatment.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

Following your appointment you will be given aftercare advice. You should expect some localised swelling and redness in the area. Treated veins may appear darker due to the cauterisation process and these should disappear over the following weeks as the body naturally disposes of the debris.

MICROSCLEROTHERAPY

What Is It and How Does It Work?

Sclerotherapy is undoubtedly the most effective treatment for small leg veins and can also be used in conjunction with our Veinaway treatment protocol. The treatment involves an injection of solution directly into the vein, causing the collapse of the vessel walls. This collapsed vessel is then absorbed by the body and naturally fades. Some treated vessels can disappear immediately, but it is more usual that fading occurs over the following weeks.

IS IT PAINFUL?

Each session may involve many injections; however, the needle is very fine so pain is not generally a problem and no anaesthetic is required. There may be some stinging as the solution travels through the smaller vessels, this can cause mild swelling and itchiness for a few hours after treatment.

How Many Treatments Should I Have?

1-3 treatments is usually recommended but everybody is different and results may vary. Following initial treatment, further sessions may be repeated at six to twelve week intervals.

what should i do after the treatment?

Cotton wool pads or plasters may be applied to the injection sites. Support stockings must be worn from seven days up to three weeks depending on the size of the area treated - please ensure you have purchased stockings before your appointment. Patients can usually return to normal activities immediately following treatment. Thirty minutes a day walking is also recommended, especially for the first few days after the procedure, although more intense exercise should be avoided during this time.
