radio frequency skin tightening

What Is It and How Does It Work?

RF therapy uses heat to stimulate the production of collagen deep within the dermis with the aim of melting fat, tightening, firming and lifting the skin.

Fat Melting

In general, fat cells are more resistant to radio frequency electrical current than other skin cells. Regular skin cells are made mostly of water and fat cells are made mostly of oil. As oil is less conductive to electrical currents than water, the fat cells heat up more quickly than other skin tissue due to the higher resistance. At a skin temperature of 40°C, the fat cells will start to melt and metabolise.

Skin Tightening

Fibroblasts are the connective tissue cells that produce collagen and elastin. Heating the deeper dermis to a constant 40-45°C stimulates fibroblast action and, in turn, increases the synthesis of new collagen and elastin fibres. This thermal trauma, which occurs to 5-30% of the collagen fibres, causes an immediate contraction of the fibres. This contraction results in the production of new collagen. The diameter of the collagen fibres in the treated area is increased, and the spaces between the fibres are visibly reduced under a microscope. This tightens the skin’s appearance and stimulates the increase in blood supply.

Treatments to the face and neck are particularly popular and we have seen some fabulous results with wrinkles and deep lines being softened and skin tightened and lifted to create a more defined profile.

There can be many reasons for loose or sagging skin - it can happen through ageing, weight loss, pregnancy etc. Radio Frequency therapy now offers a real alternative to expensive and invasive cosmetic surgery at a fraction of the cost.

Are The Results Instant?

Some people will see an immediate result following the first treatment but by following the correct aftercare patients will continue to see results over the following weeks for both treatment protocols as the destroyed fat leaves the body and new collagen continues to plump up the skin.

Suitable areas for fat melting are: Tummy, Buttocks, Love Handles, Back Fat, Upper Arms and Thighs.

Suitable areas for skin tightening are: Face, Neck, Décolleté, Tummy, Upper Arms and Inner Thighs

How Many Treatments Should I Have?

Everybody is different but a course of 6-8 treatments is recommended at weekly intervals followed by maintenance treatments every 3 months thereafter.
